Tricia - did you have any morning sickness? I never did, so I don't have many tips. Any suggestions you have for Kara?

Kara my functional doc said nausea is caused by a Vit B6 deficiency. Don't know from personal experience but that's what she said! Good luck.

Turns out I had a stomach bug. I already got my anti nausea medicine filled. Here is hoping I don't have this go round.

I just found out I'm pregnant. I've been doing AIP for nearly 3 months and due to NFP I know I am only 3 weeks pregnant. No morning sickness here so far, never had it before. Just trying to figure out where to go from here. I feel great though.

I had one occasion of morning sickness..ha! then i found out I was pregnant....I did get queasy every now and again, but it was fleeting; I found that it was because I needed food. I think ginger tea would be good though!

The one thing I had to work hard on when I was pregnant was eating enough carbs. I wasn't 100% paleo because of that, but looking back I wish I would have stuck to my guns and explored more options. Now, I am getting used to cooking with different starchy tubers to keep my carb intake up for nursing - taro root, yucca, yams (not sweet potato, they're different).

Yes, I am now 17+ weeks along at age 46! True testament to the healing power of Paleo! AIP due to Hashimoto's and Celiac - been Paleo since Fall 2011. So far, everything has been "textbook/typical". We had the (blood) chromosome test done already due to my age - and we are all clear! Healthy baby boy expected in late September. I have an older son age 9, and he is very excited to have a little brother. We felt so blessed to have him, given my health and fertility challenges at that time (total of 3 losses). We NEVER expected to be able to have another child. It's going to be an adventure!
Coped with morning sickness by avoiding too many carbohydrates - the best breakfast was bone broth or slow-cooked stew. Bananas seemed to help too, as well as chunks of (candied) ginger and ginger tea.
Any "older" mothers on the board who had children in their forties? Any advice would be welcome. I had my first son at age 37. Thanks.

Hi Pamela congrats!!! It is thrilling! ! I am an older mom as well, i turmed 45 this year and delivered a healthy baby boy on 3/21/14! My best advice is be gentle w yourself! I pushed myself way to much during my first pregnancy, This time prenatal massages, great paleo nutrition, walks and just in general Being good to self!! As far as foods, check out dianas bananna babies; dark choc covered bananas! Lots of bone broth soups !! Look forward to hearing how your pregnancy goes!!

I'm 34 and 3 weeks 5 days pregnant. Total shock as my baby just turned 1 this month, and I'm on birth control. Yikes! What brand of ginger tea? Or is it something you can make yourself?

Hi Wendy - i prefer to steep real ginger, about 1/4" Thick for about 5min. If you tolerate honey tastes great! For on the go, i like traditional medicinals has a great ginger !!

When I first read this I thought it said you were 34 weeks pregnant. I was wondering how you could be 34 weeks pregnant with a baby that just turned one. I know it's possible, but still...

I'm (just turned) 37 and 13 weeks pregnant with my second. I'm still nursing my first 1 to 2 times a day (she's almost 23 months old). I haven't had any morning sickness (yay!) and I've only been nauseous when I have forgotten to eat. I find it fascinating how different my hunger cues are when I'm pregnant. I had a few weeks I'm just coming out of of some severe meat and leafy green aversions, which I also had last time. I've managed... I find if I eat ground meat products (various burger recipes, etc) I handle it better. And if it's chunks of meat, I can't be the one preparing it. Eggs have kept me going, though.
I'm finding now that I'm really having to keep eating more carbs to keep myself going as I'm growing a baby and nursing another one. I don't consider that 'not paleo' though, since I still avoid inflammatory foods and my body needs those carbs. I eat a little more fruit and some magic primal dough from primal girl to fill me up. Luckily I'm coming out of the meat aversion phase.
I'm moving across the country in a month and starting a new job, too, so lots of changes. Mostly, I'm focused on staying calm and happy. If I do mess up on my diet, which has happened (I'm allergic to casein, but I went through a phase where I had to have cheese! I think I was craving fat since I was eating less meat, so I got good quality cheese, but I still felt it get me). I refuse to let myself feel guilty, though. I do not want my daughter to develop food issues like I did from my mom, who obsessed over everything and projected her own guilt onto others (especially her eldest, a.k.a. me!). I've worked so hard to get beyond that (and I have) and I want to model that for my kids.
