There seems to be a lot of controversy about this product. Can anyone weigh in? Is it MSG? Or does it just taste really good?

It's derived from soybeans. If you are looking for a soy free soy sauce alternative try coconut aminos.

So Bragg's and Tamari soy sauce are excluded from AIP? Kendra, here is what Sarah says about tamari re Paleo (in reply to a question from someone in the comments section of the recipe you linked to): "Wheat-free tamari soy sauce is considered okay in small quantities on regular paleo (kind of the way green beans are considered okay even though they are technically a legume). It’s because the finished product doesn’t have a very high concentration of lectins or saponins. But, they are still there and sensitive individuals (like me) shouldn’t have any soy at all (the hardest part is finding chocolate without soy lecithin as an ingredient!) Since posting this, I’ve gone completely away from tamari soy sauce and use coconut aminos as a substitue" Bragg's aminos, while gluten free, is derived from soy beans so should be avoided if doing AIP Paleo, as should tamari soy sauce. The perfect AIP sub for these products is coconut aminos

Unfortunately as I suspected... Thanks so much, Colleen! I just LOVE soy sauce, so this will be tricky. I've taken to stir frying with tamari AND coconut aminos, but I guess I'll have to slowly fade the tamari out (for not). Coconut aminos is notably sweeter than soy sauces. I added a good amount of ginger while experimenting and it seemed to take off the sweet edge. Also, I'm still learning to navigate this forum, but wanted to respond to your introduction post ~ I'm so happy you and your daughter have seen such improvements! What an in-tune act of solidarity and motherly love. Best of luck to you in your current path.
