I started the Paleo Approach for my autoimmune Lupus Nephritis a couple of weeks ago. It's all so confusing!!! Not suppose to have fatty meat (red, pork) since it's harmful for the kidneys. Which leaves me with the question.........what CAN I eat? If I eat to heal my gut I'm consuming too much meat. If I don't eat meat, with all the other restrictions, I'm so hungry and lightheaded all the time! If anyone out in cyberworld can give me advice I will be very grateful!!! I want to do this right but at this point am not sure what "right" is.

I don't know about the restrictions on your nephritis. I know you can eat Paleo Approach without eating a high fat diet. You can choose leaner cuts of beef and pork. Chicken and wild-caught fish are also good protein sources. I know I need some fats in the diet to keep my sugars under control.
Coconut oil can sometimes be a healthy fat supplement. I've read that coconut oil doesn't require bile for digestion, so can be eaten even when there are liver and gallbladder issues, but haven't read anything specifically about kidneys.
It can be hard to evaluate dietary advice these days as medical understanding of the effects of different kinds of fat in the diet is increasing and changing so quickly. Older studies on fat intake often didn't control for other foods eaten in the diet and also didn't screen out trans fats. These studies often concluded that saturated fats were bad in the diet when the studies didn't actually show this. I don't know about fats with nephritis specifically.
I have lupus, but not lupus nephritis, and have found the Paleo Approach diet to be very helpful in decreasing inflammation.

Thanks for your reply! I have since learned I can only have 6 oz. of meat daily. That' ok with me as I was a flexitarian before. With Lupus Nephritis one has excess fat in the blood so I have to be careful. I'm hoping the Paleo Approach works because it is not a fun diet!!

That's really tough. I hope you find good things resulting from the diet. I found that I react to nuts; giving them up was the hardest part of the diet.
