Seaweed

I'm trying to start eating seaweed (recommended by my Dr to eat it everyday for idodine) the store only had toasted seaweed for wrapping sushi. Are there other kinds? Do they taste any different? I tried it and was surprised how fishy and strong it was. I ate a little sprinkled on top of a sardine salad but I'm having no idea how I'm going to eat it everyday. Any recipes would be great too!

If you are dealing with autoimmune thyroid issues (aka Hashimoto's/Grave's) you will want to be cautious about adding iodine into your diet, as iodine can exacerbate the autoimmune reaction to the thyroid.
I love seaweed, but have a hard time finding it around where I live, so I don't have much advice that way. Kelp is also very high in iodine (2000 mcg/tablespoon) and is easier to come by for me. I really like the Sea Tangle Kelp Noodles (http://www.kelpnoodles.com/). You can order them off Amazon or Vitacost or directly from Sea Tangle (10% discount for bulk orders). They don't taste/smell fishy. They don't really have any taste or smell on their own at all. The texture is a little rubbery/crunchy compared to traditional pasta, but if you cook them in bone broth, they turn all nice and soft like rice vermicelli noodles. Not sure what it is about the bone broth that does it, but it works like a charm!

No, I have some complex cysts following seatbelt trama in a car accident, my doctor thinks perhaps getting more iodine might help. The kelp noodles sound awesome! looking forward to trying them, although i do wonder about the processing. some thai noodles would be awesome!

The other thing you could do (and I know this is going to sound weird), but when I need some extra iodine and don't have seaweed/kelp noodles on hand, I paint the bottom of my feet with iodine tincture on a cotton swab. I do it right before bed and then my body absorbs it as it needs it. I buy the 7% stuff from the farm supply store. The stuff that you get from the pharmacy is only 0.5% - 1%.

I use Dulse flakes you can get them on amazon or your healthfood store. Also Braggs has a seaweed sprinkle.
