hi everyone, my name is Caroline and I'm joining you from Ireland. I'm 33 yrs old and I have 3 children, Liam 3.5 yrs, lily 2.5 and john 5 months. I'm a police officer and I return to work in 6 weeks time! Eeeek! I've followed the PALEO moms blog and fb page for the last year, and have been paleo since! I'm now looking for some advice or answers..... I just got my bloods checked as I figured time for an MOT and my cholesterol levels have come back raised. I've often got my bloods checked before and my cholesterol has always been on the low side of normal, including the LDL, however my readings are 5.7 ( 5.3 is normal range) however the LDL is 3.6 and 0-2.6 would be considered acceptable! Now, I know this isn't high or anything to worry about however, its has freaked me out!!!! I'm so shook by the whole thing and just am looking for some advice in relation to this and also what foods should I cut right bk on? My hubbie is now blaming the coconut oil. I'm now afraid to continue to eat it! Help please??

Hi Cazruddy, I am TheresaR, not a doctor or even a well-experienced AIP person, but one I thing I do know is that the hype about cholesterol is all wrong. Elevated levels of ldl, hdl, or triglycerides are indications that your body thinks there is inflammation in your blood vessels. So it makes more of the stuff that is used to "patch" things.
I developed tenosynovitis after taking 17 doses of a cholesterol-lowering medication, Crestor. And I didn't really need to take more meds, I needed to get off sugars and bread and potato chips. Most of the cholesterol that is in your blood (85% -- health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/cardiovascular/cholesterol/cholesterol2.htm) was made by your body -- your diet doesn't contribute that much. Cholesterol levels are individual, also -- they change over time, with age especially. So what was usual ten years ago might be different that what is usual now.
If you are eating something with a lot of sugar, might be a problem. Stress, smoking, lack of exercise, medications, hormones -- all can cause damage that results in changes to your cholesterol levels.
You are better off looking at lifestyle holistically than to just try to avoid some foods, especially if you are not super unhealthy when it comes to diet.
