Hi there. I have been in the process of reading Sarah's book for months, picking it up as I find the time. Such a wealth of information it's hard to turn the page for fear of missing something! I first saw a naturopath about 6.5 years ago and started my diet journey by learning that I have Hashimoto's. I then stopped eating gluten. I also stopped eating dairy and soy because they were giving me obvious symptoms. Fast forward a bit I did an elimination diet--I don't remember the name of it at the moment--that included protein shakes. It was recommended by my naturopath. My sole accomplishment in that was that I weaned myself off of caffeinated coffee. Not exactly the success story I wanted, but I haven't told you my symptoms yet. Oops! Here they are (and they STILL nag me!): itching on my skin all over in various places at various times for (obviously) no known reason, and brain fog (aka. forgetfulness, senior moments, blond moments). Fast forward still further and I did another elimination diet (Whole 30). That diet eliminated sugar completely (along with a lot of other foods) and my brain fog went away! A few months later I did the Whole30 again but not successfully as I didn't adhere to it strictly. I had learned that I need to avoid sugar but was in a bit of denial (still am). So, here is what I am hoping to learn from you all: how to successfully substitute the sugars I am sensitive to in order to have the sweet taste I sometimes crave, and discover what is causing my itching (which I have been suffering from for nearly 7 years). Thanks for reading and I can't wait to learn more from this group! ~Jennifer
