I have been an RN for 30 years and was first diagnosed with AI illnesses back in 1992. I have Hashimoto's, Fibro and Lupus. I always tried to eat clean and what I considered healthy till I started to really feel worse then started doing some research. I believe that AIP is the way to go but my head is spinning with all the new information and can't seem to manage to start out 100 %. If anyone has any words of wisdom of how and where to start out it would be greatly appreciated. I have downloaded some e books with recipes but am feeling overwhelmed.

Hi jtrn. I'm an RN, have RA, and am just starting out on this too. I've been gluten free and dairy free for awhile, but I am new to Paleo, and have not yet been able to be fully AIP. My goal for AIP is New Years day. I'm trying to psyche myself up, and practice recipes, but there are tons of challenges and temptations this time of year. It is a lot of info to take in, but my approach right now is to try a few small changes, like trying to fit 10 cups of veggies into my day, and not worry about the other parts I am not doing yet (like offal!). I downloaded a 28 4 week AIP meal plan, that I think I will use in January when I start for real. I like that all I have to do is follow what it says (less confusion and decision making while I figure things out.)
Can you choose just one piece of the program to test out? Or are you more of an all or nothing sort of person? Keep trying and trying even if you don't get it right the first or second or third time! All the best to you. ---Wendy

I know that for some people diving in is just too overwhelming. Some people do better easing into the autoimmune protocol. There's actually a program that Angie Alt {of Alt-ternative Autoimmune} created for exactly this reason. It's called the SAD to AIP in SIX. Enrollment for the next January is open now. While I am an affiliate for Angie's program, I am linking to the direct link simply to eliminate question of my intentions. It's a fantastic program, one I wish was around when I first started my healing journey and I've seen it help SO many! Maybe this program will be a good fit for you? autoimmune-paleo.com/groupcoaching/

I am also just starting out with AIP as have Sarah Ballantyne's book. I live in New Zealand and been on a healthy diet for many years so am not overweight but I know I have had Irritable Bowel for 20 year's and also during that time have been on a gluten free diet. But everything in the diet such as free of grains and sugar makes me feel better also if I eat nuts they give me a headache.
