I had a surgery on Monday. I had to start antibiotics Sunday evening and still have 9 days to go (I absolutely hate that stuff, but I have no choice). My IBS was under control for the most part of the last year, but I am currently out of control! All the symptoms are at the worst they could be. I try to eat small meals, a little sauerkraut and put probiotics powder in my morning smoothie. Do you have any ideas of what I could do more to help my gut?

What is your diet in general? Are you Paleo? AIP?

I am working on the transition from plant based to paleo. This week, I added broth (I cook my food in it) and took out gluten.

I'm definitely no expert on that transition, that's for sure. And I've never been one for transitioning; I tend to go cold turkey and foll throttle. But if you are not used to eating meats, some of them can be difficult to digest. I have a friend who just simple cannot eat meats. She gets sick every time.
From what little I know, hoping someone else will jump in here, I'd personally cut out grains all together. Look for things you can have that are easily digestable. Sweet potato vs white potato. Great nutrition and easy on the gut. Not sure how you'd do with these, but I enjoy coconut milk smoothies...just frozen fruit, coconut milk and water. Before I was AIP, I had a ready supply of coconut flour muffins. Nice on an angry gut. I made a banana bread muffin and a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin. Since I'm AIP, I can't have eggs right now, so they are out. I would more than likely eat more than I should though!
I'd also sub out dairy for some other kind of milk.
Hmmm, it's getting late and my brain is rebelling. Hope this helps a little and that you get some other tips!

If so, you may wan to consider reducing your fiber intake. You mentioned bone broth, which is good. Do you eat fish? You can blend broth and fish in a blender with a little bit of sea salt to make soup. No fiber, but it will have fat and protein which is good.

Thanks for the tip beth, I will definitely bake something tomorrow (I will try a recipe from the cookbook!) I am lactose intolerant, so dairy was ditched yrs ago, even before I went vegan. TamarE, I am at both end of the spectrum, right now it is more constipation. I am getting an incredible amount of the veggies I tolerate well to fight against it! I did not try fish yet, it's on my plan for later this week. Thx for the tip!
