I started the Paleo diet to address Gastroparesis and really slow bowels. I have been feeling better. However, I have a problem with too many vegetables. I have been trying to eat carrots, but for some reason I get heartburn and a stomach ache when I do. I have no taste for vegetables and primarily eat spinach and cucumbers. I put Kale in my morning shake blend, but I don't eat much else. Any suggestion for easy to take with you vegetables that will not be too hard with my dysfunctional digestive system?

Hi there! Curious as to if you're taking a digestive-support supplement and how long you've been eating Paleo? If your GI issues persist after a month of eating paleo {especially if taking a digestive-support supplement} you may want to consider implementing a low FODMAP diet. ** See page 211-212 in TPA for info specifically on a low FODMAP diet. Also, are you taking any probiotics? Or eating fermented foods?

I have been on Paleo for about 3 months. I did the 30 days autoimmune and started adding things back. I still think I am having too many carbs, but am adjusting. I do not take a digestive-support supplement, but I do take a probiotic. I will follow up on the FODMAP aspects and see what how it helps. I have terrible heartburn and stomachache from carrots and cabbage.

Also remember that your body may react differently depending on how you cook (or don't) each vegetable. Are you eating raw carrots or steaming or roasting them? Same with cabbage. Some people find they do better when roasted vegetables are blanched first. So there are many things to experiment with.

I feel better with cooked vegetables than with raw. They seem easier to digest.
