I began my Paleo journey about January 2014, started AIP in May 2014 because of RA and skin issues. I have been under the weather recently; received two stents this month because of plaque :/ Sure wish 30 years ago I knew everything that I have learned from my AIP journey!!
For at least a year I have had chronic constipation with only relief from stool softeners and laxatives. So very tired of the constant battle. I physically feel worse with each day that passes without a BM until I finally take a laxative; whoo-hoo I always feel great then, but the next day the cycle starts over again. Not getting any helpful advise from my physician except another prescription to try. Very tired of that approach.
I don't understand how I could have constipation when 80% of what I eat is vegetable (greens, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber) 8-10 glasses of water and VERY limited fruit. No luck so far introducing coconut or plantains.
My "new" problem is heart burn; never had this before and I do not get acid reflux with it.
I am so confused with my next step. I have read about having too much stomach acid and too little stomach acid; eating too much fat and not enough. It seems both can be associated with constipation and heart burn. Yesterday I added a digestive supplement to my endless supply of purchased things to try.
Please give any advise that could help me understand what might be going on "inside" of me. Feeling lost and blue.

Sorry you're not feeling well This lifestyle is essentially an endless experiment using our own bodies to determine what will work best for each of us. So keep trying different things to see what works and what doesn't. Here are some ideas: scdlifestyle.com/2013/07/real-food-tips-constipation/I don't know why you're limiting fruit, but you might try adding some in (with skins to get fiber-organic is best)-it's possible you fall into the "too low-carb" category. You also didn't mention fermented foods-sauerkraut daily (or with each meal) can really help. As well as probiotics and magnesium. Here's another about some causes of constipation: perfecthealthdiet.com/2011/04/causes-and-cures-for-constipation/As for heartburn, here's an article to read: www.marksdailyapple.com/gerd-symptoms-causes-natural-remedies/#axzz3BVg6hfuKAnd an ebook if you want more detail: chriskresser.com/heartburnI'm no expert, but if you've done your research (which it seems you have), just pick a direction and try it out for a few weeks. If you feel better-great! If you feel worse, try something else. Probably you should try one thing at a time and give it time to work-that way you won't spend time/money/effort unnecessarily and you can identify which things really help and which don't. Just remember that what you're doing now is so much better for your body than what we were all doing in the past But there's always more experimenting to be done! Have patience and keep trying things-hopefully, you'll find a good combination soon which will help you feel much better.

Thank you both so much for responding. I read all of the reference articles you gave me and now I feel like I have a better understanding of where to start.

Thanks, ccobine! I was looking for a starchy vs. non-starchy vegetables list-and you just found it for me
