This may be a weird question but a concern of mine. Before my awareness of my thyroid disease I was very fit and muscular and now I have gained 20 lbs but it all seems to be accumulating in my arms and legs only... as very fatty cellulite "stuff"! And oh my gosh...my arms are starting to sag. AKA batwings. I know weight gain happens but this is just weird. I'm only 33! Just curious, has anyone experienced this? Thanks!

I was the same until I was diagnosed with PCOS type 3, and borderline thyroid issues. My weight is in my arms, thighs, and chin. It's unusual. I think the difference (between this weight gain and previous weight gain) is that I have been too sick to exercise. The fat seems to be of different consistency and distributed differently. I am planning to start walking soon so I hope to see a difference.

Right before I was diagnosed with Hashimotos, I gained 20 pounds in one summer, without changing a single thing in my diet. After finding out that I had an autoimmune disease, I deleted gluten from my diet and that helped some. Since starting the AIP diet, I've gradually been losing weight. My next step is to start walking and yoga. I found out that with an autoimmune, gentle exercise and med. weight lifting are better than strenuous exercise that causes the body to stay in a fight or flight pattern. Everything I had been previously doing that I thought was helping my body, was actually harming it

I met with a new doctor that mentioned a connection between autoimmune thyroid issues and insulin resistance. I plan to ask her more about it. I'll keep you posted.
