Hi Everyone, I wanted to know your thoughts on Essential Oils. Do they work? What is the best brand and why? What is the best deal to buy into? I have been very curious about them for some time now and was looking for some feedback. I have heard about do Terra and Today Oils, but have also seen others that are a lot cheaper without being in their membership. Any thoughts on this? This article about the oils being unsafe to digest and saying its may be a matter of opinion of whose oils are better is interesting. empoweredsustenance.com/ingesting-essential-oils/. Looking forward to everyone's input! Thanks

I have been looking into essential oils as well! I have been trying to see if EO's are something that I can start implementing into my life as a natural way of approaching health issues. I have done some research on them and there are several sites I have visited that have seemed reputable. - www.planttherapy.com seems to have good quality EO's at a much cheaper price than going with the MLM companies ( I have hesitated to purchase from some of the popular MLM's only because of the price. I bet they are offering great quality oils, but I am looking for something budget friendly)
- www.aromaweb.com also has lots of information about EO's and aromatherapy
- www.vitacost.com also sells essential oils at a really good price
I also found out about a book called "The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy" on Amazon. It has 4.5 stars and so I checked it out from the library first to see if it was good...I will definitely be purchasing the book. It has great beginner information as well as "recipes" for common ailments and DIY products for your home and body.

I just started using Young Life essential oils. I love them! I got the starter kit and I've started collecting more oils. Even my 6 year old daughter loves them. She is always asking if there is an oil for a stomach ache, cut, etc. I decided to go with Young Living because of how pure their oils are. I know a lot of other cheaper oils have additives. These are spendy but I love them!

A bit of a cautionary tale here. A very good friend of mine and one who I believe to be knowlegable with many natural treatments heard I had a condition called lichen sclerosis. LS is actually an autoimmune disease for which the regular doctor treatment is to use a super strong steroid cream on the affected area. I didn't like the idea of using the bandaid treatment so I was more than willing to try my friends advice and see what essential oils would do. I was to use frankincense internally as per my friend and the EO book the company supplied. About 3 months later I developed another autoimmune disease. This time it was ulcerative colitis. UC is a life altering disease of the large intestine.
I really don't think my taking essential oils internally caused me to develop UC but in truth, using essential oils are powerful and many people have had amazing results using them and I will never know for sure.
Essential oils are in fact medicinal products (at least when taken internally) and I would strongly advise using them under a knowlegable practioner especially if you have serious issues such as an auto immune condition.
I absolutely love using my doTerra essential oils in a diffuser and also in massage oil. I just won't take them internally again.
Good luck

EO are great. But they are really no different than meds in a way. They are not a traditional medicine and are a very potent extract. We don't have good data when it comes to taking them internally. Just because it is "natural" does not make it safe. If you are using them medicinally, I would definitely chose high quality, I know Simplers has great EO. Smell has a huge impact on our emotions, and topically I have seen them work miracles on rashes, burns and infections. Be safe and educated.

I purchase my EO's from Heritage Essential Oils. They are not a MLM company and the quality is very good. Linda is also a great resource.
