Should I eat when I am hungary or should I eat to get in three meals a day? I am ok with eating twice a day but worried it might cause my body to go into starvation mode. I don't exercise except for occasional walks on the treadmill. Any thoughts?

The answers to this question diverge significantly. Now that I'm well into AIP I need MUCH less food than in the beginning. My naturopath tells me to make sure I eat within 1 hour of getting up. If you can, I would stick to three nourishing meals that contain fat, protein, lots of vegetables and little carbs. If you snack in between, make sure you have abundant breaks in between the – say – 5 resulting smaller meals.

I think it all depends on your body. Some people do fine eating only when they are hungry. But for me, I find that I get the shakes if I don't eat regularly - I need 3 meals and 2 snacks a day or I really do not feel well at all. I do have adrenal fatigue though, so that might make the difference.

Hello Anderson This is something which has me puzzled too....before AIP I ate big amounts for 3 meals + snacked in between often. I was a bit overweight, but seem to handle all the chocolate and potatoe-chips and cookies, weight-wise. I ate "regular" breakfast like yogurt + meusli + fruit, 4 slices of wholemeal-bread + cheese for lunch and vegetables + rice/pasta/potatoes + some meat for dinner. In evening I could snack till bedtime......no wonder I got ill....it seems so far away now...;-)) Anyway...now after 5 months of Aip, I have 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) and a very light dinner (broth eg) I have a spoonful of fat with each meal (either porkfat/beeffat/fishoil/ghee all grass fed-except the fish..;-)) + once a day an aip-friendly piece of banana/chestnutflour bread. It's the fat which is working for me, which stops the shakiness....and I feel if I go into the night "fasting" my sleep is better.......but my general health is also better if I stick to two Aip-meals instead of 3 Aip-meals. What I did was write everything down for several weeks while I ate 2 meals (bit of a bore..;-)) what I ate and showed it to a dietician to see if I got enough nutrients and energy. All was ok. I do not excercise that much: 4 days biking to work (12 km a day) and standing in the kitchen...;-)) + walking couple of hours in weekend. Perhaps you can write everything down and show it to someone professionally? Good luck with figuring out! wishing you good health too! Monique
