Since starting paleo I wake up at night with leg cramps and even have them during the day sometimes. Any ideas?

How's your magnesium intake? Deficiency can cause problems with muscle contraction, and it's one of the things people tend to struggle with on paleo.
If you don't already, you can use a site like CRON-o-meter to track your food for a couple weeks and check for any trends in nutrients you're consistently low on.

I agree with Katy, just be careful if you go with supplements to increase magnesium, too much too fast can lead to diarrhea. It's much better to increase magnesium through foods. Right now is avocado season and avocados are a fabulous source of magnesium!

check magnesium, but also sodium, potassium and calcium as well. Also, make sure your are not dehydrated.
The other thing that can cause cramps, especially in the calf is tight muscles and trigger-points in the calf muscles - they can shorten the muscles and make them cramp up. Massage - either professional or self-admisistered can help (also warm (not hot!) epsom salts baths) - lots of stretching after the bath and the massage.
Make sure your blankets are not too heavy/tight as if your toes are pointed when you are sleeping that can lead to chronic shortening of the calf muscles leading to cramps. Wearing high heels all day can have the same effect as well...
