Hi everyone! I'm new to the Paleo community, and I've been on autoimmune Paleo for almost two weeks, but I have a question about some hormonal issues that I'm afraid have been triggered by the diet change. You see, even though my change to Autoimmune Paleo is recent, I've eliminated lactose for two years now, and gluten for six months. That was fine, but it wasn't until I eliminated all grains from my diet two months ago that I stoppped having my period. Since those two months ago, I'm embarrassed to say, I haven't had my period, and I've been having troubles with acne. Added to that, I feel kind of low in energy and I have to take a nap every day even though I sleep a full eight hours overnight, which is frustrating, because I have a lot to do! My IBS symptoms have been fading more and more, which is awesome, but these other issues are still here. Does anyone have similar experiences or any idea as to why this is? Thanks!

It sounds to me like you might be too low in carb and starch for proper hormone signaling. There can be lots of stuff causing hormone problems but since you dropped grains and the problem got worse...are you eating starchy roots and tubers? Or do you tolerate white rice? If your IBS has improved on a low starch diet you might have had some bacterial overgrowth and hopefully if you slowly add carbs back you will tolerate them well. That's just my initial thought. Seems to be a common issue for women, especially if you're getting tired also, your thyroid is probably taking a hit along with your sex hormones. The Hormone Cure is a good resource for this type of stuff as well. She doesn't specifically talk about carb consumption but you can see in her meal plans that she recommends a much higher carb diet that your typical paleo plan. Hope this at least gives you some ideas to google!

I don't have anything to add, except to day that this has happened to me too. My period is all weird now, and it used to be like clockwork, even if they were short cycles. Frustrating.
