Ok so I'm at a crossroads here with my nails. Last year I started getting gel (not acrylic which are supposed to be a little better) nails because my nails were SOOO bad I couldn't stand looking at them. Right now they are so far grown out that I either need to get them filled or take them off. My nails have been bad for years but got really bad last year when my health crashed. One of them came completely off and I can see from that and the new growth on the others that there is improvement, but still not great. One of the issues I'm facing if I decide to take them off is they are not easy to get off and require either popping them off which hurts and is damaging, or chemically soak them off with acetone.
Besides the clean diet, I have been striving to get rid of as many chemical based items in my life. So far I've eliminated commercial toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, moisturizer, hand soap, dishsoap, most household cleaners (except I still occasionally use bleach), I use a combination of EVCO and a store bought deodorant liquid crystal, I even stopped coloring my hair (I'm trying out henna, so far I don't care for it...). This should be a no brainer right? Well, I still use commercial makeup (dermablend) because I have vitiligo. One of the reasons I would like to keep filling my nails is because I feel it's bad enough I have ugly nails, but I have vitiligo all over my hands as well and having nice nails I guess makes me feel better.
So I am curious what some your takes on this might be? Should I go ahead and fill the nails to have that part of me that feels better when I look at my hands? Am I undermining all of my healthy endeavors by continuing? Or is that one chemical process I am still doing not so bad in light of everything else I'm doing?
