Notes from moderator Katherine:
Bottom line: Saturated fat intake isn't a problem for most. But very high cholesterol (and very low cholesterol) can indicate problems--same with poor ratios. If these are issues you're dealing with, continue to investigate options and tweak your diet and supplements.
For some, a paleo diet modifies cholesterol profiles in healthful ways or has very little overall impact.
For others sensitive to cholesterol intake (rare) or saturated fat intake (not uncommon), or those who have the ApoE 4 allelle, the high SFA intake of many paleo diets can raise cholesterol dramatically or skew ratios in ways that are commonly considered unhealthful even by some experts in the paleo community.
Here are some resources to learn more about cholesterol in general as well as causes of high and low cholesterol, and some opinions about when and what kind of interventions might be appropriate.

[katherine's note: I found this super helpful when it became clear that my husband's cholesterol responded to a higher SFA intake differently than mine. In other words, his LDL went up and his HDL stayed the same.]
