Inflammation is an immune system response to "a threat". So, anything that causes "a threat" will result in inflammation. Where that inflammation reveals itself depends on many factors.

It is just general systemic inflammation - the whole body can be affected at a low level.

Just wanted to say that no question is dumb. We are all here to learn and help each other.

Alright so I posted last night in a new thread about how I'm having some major gas problems, bloated, all over heavy feeling! Could this be considered inflammation? I'm scared to step on the scale.

Don't step on the scale! Your weight doesn't matter in the slightest (unless you're losing too much of it). You know how you feel. And most people know when they've gained weight-when their clothes don't fit properly. So obviously you aren't feeling your best and you will want to fix that, but the connection with weight doesn't matter. Jonathan Bailor of The Calorie Myth loves to say "Throw out your scale!!" I'm not sure I've ever heard of digestive problems being due to underlying inflammation. However, inflammation can be due to digestive problems. Another reason to want to fix them.

The only "inflammation" related intestinal problem I can think of is gastritis which my mother suffers with -- major gas, bloating, pain -- and she did find some relief by following AIP for a month. She won't stick to it...other than she did realize that legumes and carbonated beverages irritate her digestive system.
Your first order of business is healing. The scale matters little right now. If you are doing the AIP correctly, I can't imagine that you are gaining weight and weightloss will happen as the body heals. I won't lie and say I've tossed the scale but I only weigh myself once a week -- and I don't flip out if it is up a pound or two because while *yes* I have a lot of weight to lose, weightloss is secondary to what my first goal is: health. I encourage you in the strongest way I can to not focus your efforts on weightloss....trust the process and let your body heal.

"Inflammation" just means that your body's vascular tissues are attempting to initiate a healing process. It's usually good - when you sprain your ankle or get a splinter and the injured area swells up and turns red, that's inflammation. It can cause problems when it continues long term without healing. The suffix -itis essentially means "inflammation of" in medical jargon - so gastritis is inflammation of the stomach, esophagitis is inflammation of the esophagus, colitis is inflammation of the colon, etc. They can all cause digestive issues, but they usually happen in response to an external stimulus; infection, trauma, poorly tolerated food, and so on. So while it's likely that you would be experiencing inflammation concurrently with your digestive symptoms, they probably share a root cause that you have to track down.

In another thread I started, someone suggested a few foods that may be causing problems and I do believe that raw onions may have been the culprit! Sooo sad...

I'd check other fodmaps too! When I go over my fodmap threshold (evil evil delicious green grapes have just gone out of season here thank goodness!!) I also feel fatigued, anxious and generally yuck as well as tummy issues. I fought all these changes and wish I had just saved myself the grief and just embraced them :/( but those green grapes are sooo hard to resist!!

I need to go read that part of TPA again...

They aren't flagged as high but a serve is like 10. I'm talking more of an indulgence than that :-) from what I can gather, there are things they say on the monash app that are green light, but if you eat enough in one serving... Whoops!!

I'm also no expert so grapes could be bad for me for some other reason... But I haven't been able to link them to anything else yet!

Since going to low FODMAP, I've been eating blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cantaloupe ... and grapes. I'll research this more later.
