I started AIP about 5 weeks ago. I made a few slips at first, but I've gotten the hang of it and I'm doing well and starting to see some results. When I first started, I got freaked out about wheat and soy in body and hair care products. I'd already been trying to use more natural products without a ton of chemicals in them, but then I realized that most of the natural products had allergens in them like wheat and soy. So I tried the no-poo method and it was awful. My hair was greasy and dirty, I couldn't run my fingers through it because it was so dirty and coarse feeling, and it smelled like vinegar all the time (even though I rinsed). As soon as I washed with shampoo, it was smooth and silky and clean again.
I managed to find a "natural" shampoo without wheat or soy in it, but it still has sulfites and some other junk that I'd like to avoid. Can anyone recommend a brand of shampoo and conditioner that is allergen and junk free?

I really like Morrocco Method with a shampoo brush; it's raw and clay-based, so it's not technically a shampoo, but it gets your hair clean without anything weird. The shampoo brush helps work it in really well, since it doesn't lather. They suggest buying all 5 of their shampoos and rotating them out with every wash. I don't.
If you're looking for something more traditionally sudsing, Acure Organics and 100% Pure have both worked well for me in the past.

I have been washing my hair with honey and water for about 3 weeks now and it seems to be doing good. I wash it once a week and use ACV and water for my rinse. I went to Sally's and bought a boar bristle/nylon hair brush.....it is a bit hard to pull thru my hair. I brush my hair more than i did before. And you should use raw honey. I add a tablesoon of honey to 3 to 6 tablespoons of water and mix well (you can heat it gently). I wet my hair and then massage the honey 'shampoo' into my scalp......you can rinse and repeat and then add a quarter cup of vinegar to 2 cups of water and rinse with that. My hair is not as oily as it was with regular shampoo. I do not mix this ahead as the water would cause mold.
I read the paleomom's review of the Morrocan method and she loves it and her hair looked great. I wouldn't mind trying that, too. I thought the price was a bit high but hopefully it will last a good while.

Thought I would add this.....I had noticed just a tiny bit of oiliness in the crown area using the honey.....I thought that was normal as so many people say your hair is oily as your scalp adjusts to no shampoo. Yesterday evening I used the honey as usual and went to bed with it damp as I felt bad. So I didn't notice until this morning that my hair was even oilier after this washing. Part of the adjustment? Hmmm..... this morning I found a bottle of bentonite powder from soapmaking. I put some acv and water in a couple tablespoons of the powder. I wet my hair and then massaged the watery mud mixture into my hair and scalp for two or three minutes then rinsed. I sat outside and dried it in the sun and it looks and feels completely clean and I even forgot the vinegar rinse.

I have been using mizani natural hair products, as it has moisture-rich ingredients which has helped my hair to regain the lost moisture and has made my hair sleek, healthy and shiny.
