A family we know from boy scouts have two boys, age ten and age seven. Their seven year old took a nap Tuesday and they could not wake him up after several hours. He never regained consciousness. Long story short, he has a malignant brain tumor the size of an adult fist. He would not survive surgery, and chemotherapy would also not improve his situation. He is being kept alive on a ventilator and he will probably die later today or tomorrow. I''m in shock. I don't know what to say or what to do.
Please, let us all be grateful for what we have, every day. Life is precious.

When things like this happen it just makes you feel so shocked and powerless. There is nothing you can do besides be supportive to the family and grieve with them. Like you said, it makes you feel grateful for another day with your children. My thoughts are with you and this family today.

Update, he passed away today. Funeral is Sunday. Shiva (Jewish custom for visiting those grieving) is next week.

Tamar,
I completely agree. My oldest goes to the same school this boy did and it has hit me really hard. It was one thing to lose my grandfather at 95, but for this 7 year old... It is min harder to comprehend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

oh my...I am so saddened to hear about this. My heart totally goes out to all the family's friends and family. Please let me know if someone creates a sign up to bring dinners to the family during this time. I would love to help any way that I can (since I am local).

I emailed the parents and offered to be the main point of contact to coordinate all the various offers of help from the community. They may already have someone doing that for them. I think the boy scout group is going to buy one week of meals delivery online. I don't have any details yet though.
