Hi Ladies, I've had hashis for at least 5 years, I was diagnosed hypothyroid after my oldest daughter was born and I've struggled for the past 5 years to stop my thyroid from going nuts at what seemed to me a drop of a hat. I finally found a holistic endo who diagnosed the hashis and it all became clear to me why I was swinging and my meds kept increasing. nearly 3 months ago I started AIP and bam pregnant....story of my life right. The second I start getting healthy I get pregnant, similar situation with number 2. Any way my previous pregnancies were complicated with gestational diabetes and hashis and my BP was wacky. I'm hoping I can control things and maybe AIP will help all the issues. If anyone has any advice to offer about being pregnant with AIP or auto immune issues I'd love to hear more. I want to be more natural with this pregnancy if I can. I do have a midwife and an OB and a holistic minded endo so I've got the best team I can have.

Hi Coralstrr--- very similiar experience; I went AI protocol and got pregnant about a year later. I have T1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid, food allergies, gluten, grains, egg, soy, dairy, etc...I made it through my entire pregnancy very healthy and am now nursing doing paleo. I use a lot of bone broth chicken soups as my "go to ready food" and just focus on what I can have. I did bump up my startchy carb intake to about 100-150 grams a day; this was for my emotions as much as for energy and a growing baby and now nursing takes a lot more food. Feel free to bounce some ideas off me, it is super fresh in my mom and grab a copy of Primal Moms by Peggy Emch. I gained about 30 pounds, kept my Blood sugar under control and no AI flare ups...

I am concerned about when the baby is new and I'm trying to establish breast feeding. I also have a super duper hard time breastfeeding. I think I need to make lots of freezer meals a head of time or things I can, can over the summer and autumn to last us through that time. I really shouldn't gain any weight at all I hope I don't I'm all ready 209 and lost 20 lbs recently. Gaining it back won't be good...I have to talk to my midwife more about that though. I did lose 25 lbs in my last pregnancy. I'd be OK staying where I am. I do eat about a 100 carbs a day now with my GD history on those diets I only ate about max 120 carbs a day so I'm in the range.

yes prep time. I do baby wear so I know the baby will live on me in a sling at first but yeah I spend a lot of time chopping, prepping and cooking. I'm due in winter so less options for fresh fruit and things like that. I can get some but it won't be very local.

Tricia, what do you do to up your carb intake? I'm 5 weeks and am afraid I don't get enough carbs. I do eat potato and sweet potato but not everyday.

I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome that you have a midwife, OB, and holistic minded endo!! I have not found those yet, but I would think it would help a lot! I am not pregnant (that I know of), but we want to have another child soon if possible. I am going to try to do some Paleo Mom Consulting with Amy to help me get my nutrients and do my best to prevent complications (I was considered high risk last time due to my auto-immune diagnosis). That might be something that would help you too.
