If you have celiac disease, and you have children - could you share how many children of the total you have - have celiac disease also?

I don't have any children but I have coeliac disease & so does one of my brothers, my nephew & a 2nd cousin. Another brother has leaky gut. My Mum doesn't have coeliac but is lactose intolerant & has some food intolerances. There is definitely a familial link with coeliac disease. The good news for us coeliacs is that one of the large hospitals in Melbourne, Australia has been trialing a 'vaccine' (for a better word)that turns off the coeliac gene. My nephew took part in the stage 2 trial. Hopefully we will see something available in the next few years.

I'm also from Melbourne what hospital is doing the study/trial? My children don't have celiac but many allergy issues and one of my granddaughters has anaphylaxis to dairy and egg. I also have hashimotos and my father and grandfather were diabetic . I have been told by my specialist that autoimmune diseases can express themselves differently in next generations

Hi lynnieb, It was either the Alfred or the Austin. He participated at the beginning of 2013 & it was a phase 2 trial. I think this means they were testing the actual dosage required to be effective. The researchers told him they hope to have the drug / injection available in 2 or 3 years time. We will all wait in hope!

I also do not have children but I have celiac disease whilst my father has Churg Strauss syndrome and after speaking with his vasculitus doctor says that he and I carry an autoimmune gene which can be passed on to children but it will not necessarily mean they will have either disease we have, but may have another autoimmune disease instead or non at all
