Tonight I used my rubber gloves to chop up a butternut squash for the first time. I felt pretty classy And it worked perfectly! Just a bit of a rubber/latex smell, but at least my hands were protected! I don't think I need to cover them every time I cook (that would get really old, really fast), but what other vegetables can mess with your skin enough to make you want to cover up?

Melons like cantaloupe and honeydew can cause me sensitivity; even burn underneath my fingernails if I don't wash right away.

I just experience a severe reaction to chopping two bulbs of garlic for a group dinner. I have psoriasis and eczema on my hands and the allicin in the garlic burned my skin terribly. My derma recommended that I use gloves when chopping items in the garlic and onion family. Someone who knows more about food preps than I do told me that chopping these foods lengthwise instead of crosswise would release fewer irritants and give foods a milder flavor. Off to try some gloves. I've seen lots of recommendations to wear my cotton gloves under the outer gloves.
