How is everyone preparing for Easter this year with their kids? Any tips or ideas to keep the Easter egg hunt Paleo?

I share custody of my children, so keeping them off sugar and processed foods is impossible. I just do what I can at my home. I'm going to fill eggs with little cars and stickers and stuff like that.

Hi! We do plastic eggs with stickers inside. We don't put any candy in their baskets but I know there is good candy out there. Whole Foods has some. My kids love Hail Mary Macaroons so I've thought about getting those for my kiddos. They didn't miss the candy last year so I may just stick with toys and books. It seems like every children's holiday is centered around candy, cookies, and cake.
Hopefully, some other people can let us know about great resources for candy.

oooo, great ideas, Tamar! I think we'll stick to non-food items for the most part, but it is nice to have a fun treat!

We don't celebrate Easter (long story lol) but Pre-paleo I have gotten candy for my daughter from www.naturalcandystore.com - You could also make little coconut macaroon "nests" with a green natural food dye. Eggs aren't needed for a binder, I make macaroons with just coconut, coconut butter, and maple syrup. If your kids are allowed chocolate and nuts/seeds, you can make buttercups (so easy). I have a few macaroon and buttercup recipes on my blog (link in signature - all AIP recipes are clearly marked). Taking control of any treats' ingredient quality is important IMHO. Also, non food ideas: bubbles, puzzles, toys, flower/berries seed, marbles, hair accessories, earrings, bracelets, sunglasses, jacks, packets to plant gardens, loose change, stationery, bouncy balls, road trip toys, word games, etc. Hope that helps!

I made them some paleo "Reese's" but we don't do Easter egg hunts. We were supposed to go to one but it got rained out. Everything else in their basket is toys.

We don't celebrate Easter, but we do go trick or treating. For Halloween, I get some cheap toys and items for my kids to trade their candy in for (I think Sarah has a post about doing something similar). If you go to an Easter Egg Hunt where you don't really have control over what your kids collect, you can do something similar.

I made Plantain crackers but they were too hard for my TMJ. Anyone have any suggestions on a sweet potato AIP cracker. Or, Carrot cracker, or beet cracker? I'm open to some recipes. Thanks.
