I just wanted to start a thread about OA for those of us that are currently following the steps or are thinking about going to meetings.
I started going to OA last week! I've been to 3 meetings now and I am enjoying it very much! I'm shocked at how much I am learning already. Hoping for continued guidance and wisdom!

I don't know of any OA here, but I would join if I did. I fully support your initiative. Please share your knowledge with us since some of us don't have the opportunity to attend.

I didn't even know OA was a thing until very recently. I think it's something I should really consider. I would love to hear everyone's experiences with it.

For overeating and emotional eating, I also recommend the books Woman, Food, & God by Geneen Roth (or any books by her) and Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole (the first half - not the nutrition stuff at the end).

Another book I would recommend is Made To Crave by Lysa Terkeurst

"Eating in the light of the Moon" by Anita Johnston is another great resource.

Katrina Norman Visit OA.org there are valuable resources and you can find groups near you. If there aren't any close to you, they have online groups as well.

I need to look in my area (Las Vegas) and see if there is an OA. In general, I think I do pretty well and I don't cheat or stray from AIP...but there are times that I can definitely overeat...and I mean OVEREAT! Thanks for starting this thread! I will check out that website as well!

There's also EDA (Eating Disorders Anonymous) and ABA (Anorexics Bulimics Anonymous) as well as sub-groups of OA that have an AB focus, but these are usually only found in major metropolitan cities. If you're in another Anon program you can usually go to open AA meetings as well.

Just have to comment that working with a therapist can be incredibly helpful as well, regardless if you have an eating disorder or not. I work with a group of therapists in my private practice and work as a team seeing clients for eating disorders, and I've learned so much from them about mindset around food.

He won't call himself that, he says he's just a counselor but he's got the credentials!
