I have poor vision and hearing due to auto immune disease. I also have intracranial hypertension (pressure around the brain)
After 2 years on the public waiting list In Australia) , I have been booked for cochlear surgery(in about 3 weeks) . I am a university student in Australia
I applied after an autoimmune crisis, where my hearing took a big drop. . I had to fight with my Dr to get on the list. I am not good at lip reading and have trouble with most interaction that is not one on one and very small quite groups. I can not have proper conversations on the phone
Shortly after this auto immune crisis, I became a lot more conscious of my health and my autoimmunity and switched to aip
There is a lot (mounds and mounds) on the internet about metal dental fillings, but not about metal surgical implants,
The cochlear implant surgery involves putting titanium close to the brain. Despite the lack of internet material, I am heavily leaning towards turning down the surgery due to the potential impact of the titanium. Though I do feel frightened that I am reducing my ability to work/earn money (I am studying in a field that requires a lot if interaction)
My family and friends are very disturbed. I have not mentioned this to my specialist yet.
I do know that a person is exposed to metals in a lot of facets in life
is feasible to take the surgery (and be exposed to metal ) but limit other exposures (non spring bedding, stainless steel cookware/ no sunscreen. makeup/ using natural deodorant etc) ?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or experience? (whether cochlear or other implants)
Any tips on reducing other exposure to metal
I would really appreciate the advise or thoughts of people who are open to the AIP approach to addressing autoimmunity (which no one in my non internet life is)
