There is little difference between the Paleo diet and the PHD diet researched and written about by Paul Jaminet and Shou Ching. The main difference is white rice. Paul seems to propose that white rice, being the least toxic of all grains, helps to fulfil human requirements for carbohydrates. I came across mentioning that the Paleo diet often fails to provide sufficient carbs leading to various digestive imbalances. I appreciate your thought about this.

Your body needs carbs, especially if you have thyroid issues like I do, and I have found it difficult to get enough carbs in sometimes while doing the AIP. You also need carbs to maintain balanced hormones, especially as a woman. So I do see and agree with where the PHD is coming from that way, but there are a lot of good sources of carbs on the paleo/AIP diet that don't require you to eat grains (roots and tubers and fruit being the main ones, nuts and seeds for those doing just paleo and not AIP). I have heard that white rice is supposed to be one of the least inflammatory grains available, but I react quite violently to rice, have done since I was a baby. I get a worse reaction from rice than I do from gluten! Plus, I don't think it's as nutritionally dense as some of the paleo choices you could make. I seem to do well with wild rice and buckwheat, so if I ever were to reintroduce grains/pseudograins back into my diet, it would probably be those. I think it's kind of like anything else when it comes to diet/nutrition - no one size fits all and you need to listen to your body.

perfectly agree with rheagan, AIP is helpfull, necessary, vital in some cases, even in his strict form, but the reintrodction in very personal, individual, listen to you body, to your mind, to your belly!
