Hi! My husband and I have been following the paleo lifestyle for over a year now. We have been doing great! I do have one problem for myself. I have an ileostomy as a result of Ulcerative Colitis that would not go into remission. I had my surgery in January of 2001. The greatest difficulty I have following the paleo way of eating is that I am limited on the amount of fresh and even cooked vegetables and fruits I can consume without causing a blockage. Trust me, I have tried, and have had some close calls with a blockage. I am also a marathoner and require a good amount of calories. I try to keep my carbs at around 150 g a day. When I went lower, I struggled with fatigue and poor training performance. 150 g seems to be perfect for me. I will find at times, that I must 'cheat' in order to get those carbs from a lower fiber/lower residue perspective as, again, I just cannot tolerate the higher fiber and residue.
What I am looking for in this post, is ideas for getting my fruits and vegetables with less bulk that still offers me all the benefits of the paleo lifestyle. Any suggestions or someone with a similar situation?
Thank you so much.

Yes, eating a nutrient dense requires lots of fiber in the form of fruits and vegetables but if that does not work for you, you may need to adjust the amounts to what is best for you. I have Crohn's, and I don't eat as much fiber as some people (two examples: Sarah herself and Stacy from Paleo Parents), but I know if I eat too much fiber it's not good for my system. I'm not very familiar with nutrition for people that exercise often, run marathons, etc. Hopefully others will reply!
