Hello first of all.
I am new in this Paleo community forum, so this is my first entry (which is quite urgent). Thanks for continuing reading.
I have been on a strict autoimmune Paleo diet for around 6 weeks (so no grains, dairy, legumes, nightshades etc.). So far, I felt really well.
I heard that eating nutritional yeast should be safe. I did not know this food before and when I started to consume it, I did not know that it is only a food supplement, now I know and would not eat a big amount of it again.
I have had nutritional yeast in the past weeks (also in bigger amounts - not enriched in vitamin b12). It was always fine to eat it and I felt good.
But today, I tried for the first time nutritional yeast enriched in vitamin b12. It was so delicious I ate around 10-15 teaspoons of it. ! Some minutes later I got a real big rush all over my skin and my ears got really red and hot! I felt really allergic to it. I checked online and saw that the recommended daily amount should not exceed 1-2 teaspoons! Apparently nutritional yeast contains loads of purines which can create an abundance of uric acid (which has been associated with several ailments, including gout.) So now I'm scared I irritated my body too much and I will develop a gout.
I will definitely not eat anymore nutritional yeast in big amounts, only as a supplement.
Can someone tell me if I should make a blood test or see a doctor?
Thanks a lot. Best, Moa

I'd probably try calling poison control!

I'm sorry, I don't have any information on that and when I Googled it nothing popped up giving suggestions for those who might have overdosed. The heat/rush you felt does sound similar to the impact Niacin has on the body though. Since Niacin is a B vitamin, and you ate so much of the nutritional yeast, that may be part of what you experienced. How have you been feeling since this morning?

Hello!
Thank you so much for your answers and I apologize for not replying to you. I am not used yet to connect to this forum too much.
I did not have any other symptoms or no more rushes since then, so I think you might be right with the Niacin.
Anyway, I will not eat as much nutritional yeast anymore. In one way it is good it has happened:)
Thanks a lot again!
