Hi ! I was wondering, if someone drinks kombucha on a daily basis, are probiotic pills recommended as well, or does it suffice on its own ? I don't fare that well on fermented foods but Kombucha seems okay with me. Thanks in advance

Diversity in the gut bacteria is a great thing. If you can manage to take a soil-based probiotic and drink kombucha; by all means do it

I like to get as much variety in as I can. I alternate supplements, probiotic foods like sauerkraut and vinegret, kombucha, jun tea, beet kvass, etc. Any one of them "counts" as my probiotic for the day. You don't have to try to get multiple sources in every day, but keeping a supplement on hand for the days you run out of (or forget about...) your kombucha will help diversify your microbiome.

in regards to kombucha...it is made with sugar right? How is that o.k. on AIP? Maybe I need an explanation and a recipe to understand. Also, can you buy an AIP friendly kombucha from the market? If so, is there a brand that would be a good one to initially try? Can someone give me an easy sauerkraut recipe? I mean easy!

Most of the sugar is eaten up by the SCOBY, but there is some residual sugar in kombucha. But supposing they use real fruit juice to flavor it, it's not a problem, at least in my opinion, by what I've read. Let's see what the mods think Thanks for your answers, I will alternate between different sources of probiotics.

myjourney The sugar feeds the SCOBY. At the end of a full ferment, very little is left. It's still worth checking the sugar content on the label, though; some brewers will run a short cycle for sweeter kombucha, or will add a ton of fruit juice for the second ferment. GT's is a solid brand that's pretty widely available. You may just want to stay away from the guava and other super sugary blends.
