Hello, I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's, My Dr. had me on Zyflamend for a couple months - with the new Thyroid panel a couple weeks ago my Antibodies actually increased by double. So, he switched me to Ashwagandha to reduce the inflammation. I have been on it for two weeks now, I don't feel any different. But then again I have been changing all sorts of things, diet, lifestyle, job, etc.....
After reading that Ashwagandha is a "Nightshade" and not recommended on the AIP Protocol, I am a little skeptical. Not sure what to do here - I am very strict with EVERYTHING I eat - except with this Ashwagandha.
Should I wait until my next Thyroid Panel which is on May 1st and see what happens? Or should I stop taking it?
Has any one else taken the Ashwagandha for Hashi's?
What are your thoughts?
Lisa

I thought Ashwagandha was for adrenal fatigue? My functional doc put me on it as well, and I'm not sure it's helped me, either. I'll be interested in other replies to this thread.

If your doctor put you on it, it's probably best to talk with him/her before you discontinue. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, which means it's supposed to help your body better cope with stress, is anti-inflammatory, and is traditionally used to elevate thyroid hormones (but I don't know how well it's been studied for thyroid conditions specifically). It is also a nightshade, so if you have or suspect or are trying to test for a nightshade sensitivity, it might be worth talking over other options with your doctor. At the very least, talking through your concerns might help.
