I am from Calgary, and wondered if there are any other Albertans out there.

Hi, My name is Deb & I live in Didsbury, just north of Calgary! I am quite new to this schtick... So any help with food resources in the Calgary area would be WONDERFUL! I have MS (dx'd in 2005). I am, at this point, Paleo/Primal... I guess... Pretty excited to find someone so close!

So if you are in the North, one of the best farmers markets you could use is the Symons valley ranch one - right on the outskirts of north Calgary. Costco is also good There are 2 that might work for you - one on sarcee trail (11588 Sarcee Trail NW) and one just to the north of calgary near Cross Iron Mills (300-293020 Crossiron Common). I discovered the other week that costco sell "Heritage Angus Burgers" that are grass-fed (But grain finished), antibiotic and hormone free, and they are delicious! other than that, I tend to shop at various ethnic grocery stores (T&T for example) and some farm shops, plus a smattering of other things.. and superstore... It is not unusual for us to visit several grocery stores on the same day to get what we want.

Thanks Charlotte! For sure, I will check that Symons Valley market - never knew about it. FYI, there is an angus beef store in the Innisfail area, but I JUST found out that their meats are all processed about 5 minutes from my doorstep - at a plant just south of Didsbury. Along with beef which they raise in Innisfail, they have recently added locally grown pork & lamb. I see that besides proximity, we also have raw feeding/ pet nutrition in common! I'm currently dealing with a dog who has suffered some tragic grief & has presented (as a result, we believe...) with an auto-immune issue IBS, allergies... I am learning things for her & myself - how to treat nutritionally! I started "fostering" this dog last summer & she came to me on a kibble diet, which I changed pretty fast! She has come sooo far! AND her coming into my life has taught me so much too! Hope we find more peeps in this area!

Hello! I live in Calgary (although spend the summers in Ontario). Thank you for the Symons Valley market tip. Does it run all year? That would be easier for me to access than the markets down south. I would love to hear about any local producers of organic, grass-fed meat and free-range poultry. Thanks!

Hi Charlotte, Deb and Leeane! I am in Cochrane. One resource I've found, worth mentioning here, is TK Ranch for beef, pork, chicken, lamb and turkeys. They are online, just google them. Love their products and how they do things is awe inspiring - you can read about it all as exhaustive information is provided on their website. You can order online and they make deliveries into Calgary (and points north)to many different locations. I am happy to have found a few others near to me and promise to come back and share if I come across more great finds. Charlotte, I just visited your blog. I am so sorry to hear of your setback I will be thinking of you and hope that things are improving. Best wishes.

I'm in Calgary, too. Just started with the Paleo lifestyle. Overwhelmed, but excited. Thanks for the shopping tips!

Another Calgarian here! I have a list of my favourite local producers on my blog under "Resources" if anyone's looking for ideas. We are lucky to have so many great options so close to home! In addition to Costco, the farmers' market (usually the Calgary Farmers' Market), and Superstore, Community Natural is one of my regular stops. You can find a lot of stuff in bulk there and the customer service is great! If anyone is interested, I would be up for starting a dinner club or something social along those lines to celebrate our paleo/AIP-ness!
