I have seen them in both Veggie Boys and Countdown NZ, often under the name cooking bananas

I have spoken to my local Harris Farm and they happy to do a special order for you for plantains if you just ask them.

Can get plantains at the Asian grocer in the Central Markets for those in Adelaide.
But maybe try Asian grocers or markets in other places too?

Charlie's Fruit Market (www.charliesfruitmarket.com.au) are now only doing pre-set boxes for delivery, boooooo!!! I guess they might still sell plantains in their shop, though.

2 or 3 of the stalls in Footscray market also have them. Close to Maribyrnong as suggested above, but perhaps more convenient for some, as you can avoid the Highpoint traffic jams. I have also seen them at the fruit and veg/deli next to Aldi in Altona gate.
I think the plantains we get here are different to the ones Sarah gets for 2 reasons, 1 they taste sweet when ripe and Sarah's nutrition info on Mufu and the plantain apple fritters are both very low in sugars. And 2 the plantain apple fritters I made did not set at all, they stayed like a runny goop in a sea of coconut oil, I ended up throwing it out after all that effort I put in sitting around watching them ripen! But tasty anyways.

spotted at harris farm bondi junction, but at the rip off price of $10/kilo. ugh. Hmm, this is how much they cost at Charlie's Fruit Market in Brisbane. How much is a reasonable price per kilo for plantains? Thanks!

Hi All, I found plantains at T-Bones Fresh Food Markets at Aspley (north Brisbane), and for only $5.99/kg!! They have lots of other 'unusual' fruit/veg there too. Woohoo!
