Here's a dilemma. For the past 2 weeks or so, I haven't been hungry. My doctor said I could be getting over a bug or something. I can't afford to lose any more weight and I normally do okay if I eat enough each day. But should I eat if I'm not hungry at all? Tonight, I took one bite and felt full...but I forced myself to keep eating because I'm worried what will happen if I don't get enough calories in.
So...listen to your body? Or eat what you know your body did well on previously?

I've been in this situation. It's not healthy to not have an appetite and it's usually caused by low calories and carbs. If you are losing weight or know you aren't taking in enough, yup, gotta get when you don't feel like it. Normal sensations of hunger and fullness will return, but depending on why/how long this has been a problem, it can take a long time. It's not fun, but the body can not heal without enough food. If eating a large volume is a problem I've found it useful to eat an extra tbsp of fat at each meal just for calories, but it's best to work towards sufficient starch with each meal to stimulate appetite and support proper hormone signaling.

My hunger disappears when I have stomach acid issues (too low). When I take betaine HCL + pepsin, hunger magically reappears instantly :-) Have you ever checked your stomach acid? Here's how: scdlifestyle.com/2012/03/3-tests-for-low-stomach-acid/When I keep eating even while I'm really not hungry, eventually I will get really sick because I'm not addressing the problem. Which in my case is low stomach acid.

I force myself to eat. I am all for listening to your body, but when it isn't healthy you can't trust what it is telling you! Gaining weight when you need to is just as hard as losing weight is for other people.
