Adult onset Juvenile Type 1 here! I'm on a pump and wear a CGMS. Actually those things kinda give me a heads up on the food problems. Inflammation shows up in my glucose numbers and then I can pinpoint the culprit. Never thought having diabetes would be a point in my favor! I've discovered the following about me.
Any kind of gluten has an extreme reaction and that means a mountain of high sugars to climb down as my body rebels with the onslaught. Last time I had gluten I spent 4 days in bed.
Dairy is a rise of 40-50 points no matter how much insulin I put into the pump and it lasts for 4 days after eating dairy.
Nightshades is the same as dairy except the joint pain occurs within 20 minutes of ingesting any nightshade.
I'm working my way through some other issues. Getting too much Omega 6 into my diet seems to also shows up as inflammation type numbers on the CGMS. And lasts for 48 hours. Still testing that one.
Now eggs….I can do eggs all day long without any signs of inflammation. Also Dark Dark Chocolate seems to actually lower glucose numbers.
Good thing I liked math as a student….I sure do use a lot of it now!

Hi all, this thread was started over a month ago, but I'm here now, too! T1 from the US, living in Spain. on a Minimed pump, no CGMS unfortunately. Also have Hashimotos. Would love to hear more about diabetes and AIP, I've been AIP since last October or so, have tried some introductions but nothing really successfully. I also follow Dr. Bernstein, so no fruit aside from the occasional berries. Last A1c was 5.1 and I'd like to keep it there! I have 2 kids, one 5 years old and one 1 year old. I gave up dairy for my daughter as she seemed to be reacting to it in my breast milk (used to use a lot of cheese, heavy cream, butter, whole fat yogurt), and in researching came upon AIP. My only "digestive" issue seemed to be chronic constipation ... trying to work on that! Magnesium has helped.

Hi everyone! I'm a diabetes newbie as they just diagnosed me two weeks ago today. I am on Lantus and Humalog and still trying to figure everything out. I still don't know if I have Type 1 or 2 because the doctors still aren't sure. So for the time being they are treating me as if I have Type 1. I would appreciate any advice anyone could give.

Hi everyone! I am type 1 from the United States but living in London now. I've been diabetic for 25 years and on minimed pump for about 14 years. I also have graves disease, pernicious anemia, and reynaud's syndrome. I've been AIP since November and it has made a HUGE difference but still waiting for remission of my most recent autoimmune conditions. I definitely have intolerance to gluten, dairy/lactose, fructose, eggs, nuts, seeds, coffee, nightshades and some non nightshade veggies. I'm hoping to be able to add back at least some food because my diet is very limited at the moment! Is anyone else also doing low FODMAP and AIP? Were any of you type 1 diabetics doing AIP while pregnant? We may try to conceive at some point over the next year. Thanks! Lindsey
