Hey! We attend Waldorf school here in Wendelstein, Germany. Our son helped plant a wheat field as part of a school project, and two days ago was required to help cut the wheat. He had serious attitude problems afterwards - was crying about everything. His teacher told me that his symptoms couldn't be resultant from his exposure to wheat/gluten in the air, because she consulted a doctor (specializing in allergy/pediatrics) who told her it was ok. I have heard that the nose is the quickest route to the brain (not the gut), and I am very concerned of course. Incidentally, the doctor was one of the 5 or so I consulted about Ian's tourettes-twitches 2 years ago - I suspected they were related to gluten intolerance. The doctor told me "no-way". One year later we found out my son had Celiac Disease, and 1 month after going completely gluten-free the tourettes-twitches disappeared. Today, the children had the bags full of wheat in the classroom, and I saw my son's tourettes-like twitch return. I didn't have to even ask the question - he was already very concerned about the exposure and said his teacher didn't care. Even if you have no idea, like me - could some creative person help me think of a good search phrase to use on scholar.google.com so I can check for research on the subject? "air exposure" + celiac doesn't bring up anything, unfortunately I think I might need a "doctor's note" excusing Ian from any work related to wheat - does anyone know if Dr. Ballantyne would consider providing that to patients overseas? We are American - my husband is retired US Army military - currently working overseas. Of course we would pay whatever her rates are for that service(!!!!) Thanks SO MUCH in advance for any advice or assistance you can give worried!
