I had two appointments today. First was the gynecologist to go over labs. I have very irregular periods and often go for months at a time without one. She's more worried about the long term effects of not shedding the uterine lining, and that it could turn precancerous. She confirmed that I have PCOS and suggested three treatment options:
1. Go onto birth control. 2. Take progesterone every other month or so to shed the lining. 3. An IUD.
I'm not enthusiastic about any of those choices, but I guess number two would be least detrimental? I don't know. We're waiting to see what happens with other doctors and tests before deciding and going forward with anything. I also got an endo referral.
I went to a radiologist today for a fine needle biopsy for my left clavicular node that is swollen. They took an ultrasound, and the radiologist said that my nodes are completely smooth and normal, and that he didn't see the point in sticking a needle in. I was in pain and inflamed and out of it, so I just agreed and left. He did say to come back if anything changes, or to come back in six months. Afterwards I realized that TWO different doctors had told me that the node is swollen and ought to be checked out, and that this radiologist didn't even feel the node! I'm going to go back on Monday to ask him to feel the node and confirm that it is fine. At my gyno appt earlier in the day she could feel it rolling around and was glad that I was getting the biopsy.
The inflammation/redness/bumps have spread and intensified on my ankles and the tops of my feet, as well as all around my wrists and the back of my hands.
Today I ate: -bone broth -leftover onion, beef, greens, and mushrooms -a bowl of cherries, strawberries, and blueberries (it's berry season here in the PNW!) -plantain chips -sardines on greens -more berries -more bone broth -peppermint tea -lots of water

I made a batch of Mickey's liver pate tonight using lamb liver from New Seasons. Warm, it's surprisingly tasty! On the other hand, I ate a whole bunch of snickerdoodles from Trader Joe's. They're GF, DF, SF, etc., but definitely not AIP. Hope I don't feel it too much tomorrow.
Serious brain fog today. Spent most of the day in a daze, just standing or sitting there, trying to figure out what to do next. It took me hours to get out of the house. Still, I did.

Skin is not good today. Clusters of tiny bumps covering the backs of my hands and tops of my feet. Body flaky, inflamed, and dry. Legs dotted with hard little yellow scabs. Took a long Epsom bath, exfoliated, and covered with honey, then moisturizer with tallow. Better, but still red and painful.

Today was pretty good. I went on a short bike ride - about 3.5 or 4 miles and got some vitamin D. That's a definite improvement over being immobilized in bed all day from pain and fatigue. I ate two things today not AIP - a square of dark chocolate and a few bites of plain yogurt.
The soonest I can see a rheumatologist is the beginning of August, and an endocrinologist at the end of September. That's pretty discouraging. That much closer to a diagnosis though.
The skin all over my body is still horribly flaky. Anywhere I sit I leave clouds of white flakes and my clothing is always covered in them. It's pretty gross. I need to buy some lighter tops - white tees maybe. At least in the past few days it's only been flaky, and the pain an inflammation seem to have gone down. I tried using all sorts of things to control it - tallow, coconut oil, my homemade body butter, even my egyptian magic but nothing worked. I've gone back to my old tub of Cetaphil cream for now, as much as I hate to do it. It works, though I have to reapply often.
Also, in the the past week or so the backs of my hands and fingers, as well as the tops of my feet are covered in itchy red bumps. Blah.
But, I went on a short bike ride, knew not to push too far, came home and was able to prepare some food (Mickey's pan roasted pork chops, leftover veggies, a creamy mango lassit dessert, and a pot of bone broth), and spend a relaxing evening with my husband. I call that a successful day.

Hi there...I noticed that you mention plantain chips a lot. Are these AIP friendly? I would love to start including them if they are.

_hashimom_ Yes, I believe they are, depending on what kind of oil they are made with. Plantain chips totally fill my snacky needs, I probably eat them too much!

Always learning, always tweaking.
I'm super gassy tonight, I suspect all the cherries I ate earlier. Danngit, I love cherries.
I had an allergist visit today, he basically told me that there's not much he can do to help me, but he hopes the other doctors that I'm seeing will.
I haven't received my test results for Vitamin D yet. I should call.
I have some shuffling around of doctors' appts to do because of appointments in August and September.
My allergist and internist both have given me literature to read on FODMAP intolerance. I suppose I should take a hint. I'm just hesitant to further restrict my diet. No onions or garlic??? No berries??? It's berry season in the PNW and those are pretty much the only fruits I can eat.
Two doctors also recommended that I see a dermatologist. I suppose I should do that too. Meh.
Should I see an ND?
At this point I am trying to treat for: -SIBO -FODMAP intolerance -Candida overgrowth
I'm going to start including 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil in my daily mug of bone broth for the caprylic acid. Also in any tea I have. And then maybe up it from there. Also considering rotating antifungals like grapefruit seed extract, oregano, olive leaf extract, and turmeric.
I need to organize our medicine/vitamin/supplement cabinet. It's getting out of control.
I've been more mobile and energetic the last few days - doing stuff around the house that I haven't been able to for a while, I even went on a big grocery run today with my husband. I definitely still have skin flare ups and internal pain, but I have better ways to deal now. I still can't do anything too active - even yoga is too much. Just stretching up and folding over is painful. I did a short tai chi/qigong video from youtube, and that was all right. I might try doing that more, and once I learn the motions, I can do it in a park or something for gentle movement. I'm a 90 year old lady in a 27 year old's body.
I found green plantains at Fred Meyer for 99c per pound! Let the experiments begin - first, homemade plantain chips of course.
I've got my broth routine down pat now. I've been making regular batches of beef broth that gel wonderfully in my pressure cooker. Now I need to make a few extra batches so I have backstock in the freezer. Especially since We have guests staying with us for two weeks this month.
Because of guests coming, I really need to up the batch cooking. I'm thinking patties, meatballs, salmon cakes, and liver pate. I'll keep grassfed burgers, frozen fish fillets, and sardines on hand as well. When they're here I'll probably just keep doing what I've been doing, just more. Cooking up large batches of veggies with delicious protein variations. Will probably have rice for grain.
() Pick up Vit C () Find a liquid melatonin that does not contain fructose. () Update symptom list () Update food list () Sort through medical paperwork () Return giant bag of garlic I bought today () Buy more mason jars
