I suppose that depends on what you're taking it for. I have lots of unexplained problems, all that's certain right now is that my inflammation markers were way up. So the doc decided to give me a short course of prednisone, to see if it would help any of my complaints and get the inflammations down. In the mean time, doc's trying to find out what's actually wrong with me.

30 mg Today's my last day and I sure am glad to take that last pill. You're going from 30 mg to nothing all at once? I thought predsnisone was a "taper gradually" drug. Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor. Karin can let us know if we're wrong, but I believe sometimes people are put on moderate amounts of prednisone for a week or so to knock out their problem. I'm not sure tapering is necessary after such a short time. But I'm no doctor, either I would just hope that after a short period of time, it wouldn't have the opportunity to make the body dependent on it like someone who's been taking it longer.

Yes, that's exactly what my doctor was trying to do. I have so many complaints and infections he just prescribed a short course of prednisone to see what would clear up (answer: nothing so far). I've been taking short courses of prednisone in the past for respiratory infections when antibiotics failed (I have asthma).

I'm on it right now too for a SLE flare...I hate it bc I'm experiencing really bad mood swings and insomnia. I'm currently tapering so this is to be expected but I am going to try to stay away from this guy for awhile. My body does not handle it well...I get cold sweats and chills...ick. Also, my HR is super low compared to normal (not seeking medical advice here). Boo. Can I get off the steroid train?

You can just say "sorry for fill in the blank, the prednisone made me do it..."

Hmm I've been on it for so long, I forgot it's there in the background potentially causing all kinds of chaos in my body I'm weaning off, so we'll see what happens if I can manage to get off it completely
