Last month I searched around for organic/grass-fed/pastured foods...
Whole Foods: Pastured eggs ($8/doz). Grass-fed bison, grass-fed beef, whole pastured chickens. Organic Valley Pastured and Kalona Supernatural butter and cream. Wide variety of organic veggies and fruits.
Local Harvest: Old Homestead and other pastured eggs. Some organic veggies and fruits, emphasis on local production.
Freddies' Market in Webster Groves: Old Homestead and other pastured eggs. Some grass-fed meats.
Planet Health at Clarkson/Manchester: Grass-fed meats, bones, and liver (this is the only grocery I found with grass-finished bones and liver). Raw milk.
Mac's Local Buys: seasonal group orders to buy large quantities of grass-fed and pastured meats.

I found many local CSAs providing organic or spray-free produce. CSA sign-ups open in winter, and many close in early spring. If you've missed out on the sign-up period, or don't want to commit to a CSA, the Schlafly Maplewood farmer's market on Wednesday afternoons seems to have many organic/grass-fed/pastured foods ( schlaflyfarmersmarket.com/ ). The Kirkwood Farmer's Market has organic foods on Saturday mornings.

Thanks for all the great info JB, I hadn't found Planet health yet, I will go check them out. We are trying to save for a half or quarter calf right now with a family of four we can go through the meat! At Whole Foods on brentwood they just started carrying one sugar free, uncured bacon! I am doing AIP so any little help is great Nice to meet you both, glad to know you are out there too

Thanks JB. I have never heard of Planet Health either. Sounds like someplace I need to check out. My husband works in St. Louis so he usually makes the runs to Whole Foods and Trader Joes. We get eggs, chicken and pork from a family farm in Millstadt, Fresh Pasture Farms. We have a half hog on order from them to share with my sister's family. They are also putting in some veggies this year. Not sure what they will have. We didn't find them until last fall so I'm not sure what they were growing.

Hi I'm in Webster Groves and have just been eating Paleo for about 6 weeks. I've been shopping at Whole Foods and Costco and hit or miss at other stores. Did just get a Living Social Deal for grass fed that turned out ok and we have venison that my husband hunts. Excited about the farmers markets starting up again! Anyone found any restaurants?

>> Anyone found any restaurants? Yes-- The Hot Pot on Manchester Rd ( The Hot Pot ) is paleo-friendly. I usually get a bowl of free-range chicken with sauteed veggies, served over sweet potatoes, without sauce; very much like what we make at home. I think a bowl is about $10. They also have paleo treats but I haven't tried any yet.

>>I have never heard of Planet Health either They are on Clarkson Rd just north of Manchester. Website is here: Planet Health
I looked everywhere for grass-fed bones, and finally found some there. I tried making bone broth with them, but the broth had a horrible odor, so I threw the broth away. I might try again, roasting the bones first this time... not sure. I might have to settle for collagen tea instead of bone broth. BTW, the bones weren't bad (they are refrigerated in vacuum-packs), I just hated the smell of them simmering.

Hi, my name is Jan, and I live in St. Charles, am hoping to find somethings out here, but I may need to take a trip into St. Louis. I have not started Paleo yet, guess I just don't know where to get started. I did find a local CSA farmer that I am thinking about signing up with for the season. The reason I want to go Paleo is as a supporter for my daughter Sheri who has MS.

Hi Jan
What a great supportive thing for you to do! If you don't belong to Costco, they also are starting to carry many things I use. They have lots of good organics at better prices for produce, good bacon without nitrates or nitrites, oils (avocado coconut and olive) KerryGold pastured butter, ghee and free range organic eggs. I get my bulk almond flour and coconut flour at Whole Foods, and also kelp noodles which my family enjoys in Asian dishes.
It is so great to find wonderful recipes on Paleo Mom and other sites and Facebook. I really don't miss anything, especially the 15 pounds I just lost in less than 2 months!

Hi all - I'm Ashley. I'm also in the St. Louis Area (Kirkwood). Another great place for meat is Live Springs Farms. They do a delivery to Kirkwood about once a month. You can order online and then pick up on a Saturday at Kirkwood Road and Big Bend.

Yay! People from St. Louis. I was so excited to see this thread. Anyone have information on local farmers that sell grass fed (not grain finished) beef and pork? THANKS!
