Hi all I'm been living gluten free for over two years and on a modified AIP since Jan of this year. I've always been skinny and my gut issues are pretty much obsolete but I'm having trouble maintaining weight. My curves are diminishing rapidly and I can't afford to lose any more! I have gotten lax on the full fat coconut milk and adding oil to my dishes so that I know I can and will begin doing again but what other suggestions do you have? I do sweet potato and squash in small moderation as too much causes neck pain and migraine. I also do plain white rice 1-2 times per week. I feel like I'm always eating as is but still keep losing... It's frustrating! Thank you in advance for any insight!!

Hi Cassie, I just met with my dietician and here are her suggestions: add fat (which it sounds like you were planning to do) coconut oil is great - I plan to get some lamb fat from my farmer since I am having trouble with coconut right now, Use a protein powder and make sure to eat at least 4 times a day. She also recommended some specific lab tests, one of them being a complete metabolic profile, which will tell your dr. how well you are metabolizing protein. I hope this helps, and i say GET FAT girl! ;P

I highly recommend tracking your calories on one of those nutritional websites. I put in a typical day for me and was surprised to see that I was around 400 calories below what I would need to maintain my weight... oops! That would be why I'm still losing!
I've always listened to my appetite cues and they've kept me pretty much on track my whole life -- back when I was eating SAD, that is. I would get a blood sugar crash every 2-3 hours, so I was constantly eating, but it did keep my weight fairly stable. But my hunger cues are so much more subtle now that I'm eating paleo, and it's way too easy for me just to run on stored fat... which I am rapidly running out of.
What I've noticed is that I'll go a few days not quite eating enough, and then I'll suddenly get hungry, like REALLY hungry the way I used to, and I'll shovel in a bag of Terra Chips or something and feel great, and then go back to eating lightly for a few days. I'm not sure this is a good pattern. I really need to work more on getting more food into each meal.

I am about to start the AIP diet for psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, among other issues that I assume are probably all tied into my autoimmune disease (infertility, hormone imbalance, insomnia, etc...), but I am petrified about losing weight I am already very thin (have been my whole life) and it has always been a struggle for me to gain or even maintain weight. My main concern is on my work days - I am a NICU nurse and I work 12 hour shifts. I can't snack at work, and I only get several breaks during the day (although some days if we are busy I am running around almost constantly without significant breaks) I plan to take several weeks of work off when I officially start the diet so that I can adjust, but eventually I will have to go back to work. Any support or ideas would be appreciated! I am very self conscious about my weight and the thought of getting thinner makes me very anxious
